Pipe Offset Calculator

Enter the offset you need and the fitting angle to get the travel (center-to-center length of the angled piece), the run it covers along the pipe, and the pipe cut length after subtracting the fitting take-off.

Your numbers

inches
inches

The distance from fitting center to pipe stop. Subtracted twice from the travel to get the cut length.

The math

  • Travel = offset ÷ sin(angle)
  • Run = offset ÷ tan(angle)
  • Cut length = travel − 2 × take-off

A 45° offset has a travel of 1.414 times the set, and a run equal to the set. For rolling offsets, first find the true set from the vertical and horizontal sets with the Pythagorean theorem.

Worked example

A 12 in. offset with 45° fittings has a travel of 16.97 in. and a run of 12 in. With 1 in. take-off each end the pipe is cut at 14.97 in.

Frequently asked questions

What is a rolling offset?

An offset that moves the pipe both sideways and up. Combine the two sets as the square root of (vertical² + horizontal²), then use that as the offset.

What is the offset multiplier?

The travel divided by the set: 1.414 for 45°, 2.613 for 22.5°, 2 for 30° and 1.155 for 60°.
