Oathway Privacy Policy

- No account and no sign-up. Your study progress and settings stay on your phone.
- We don't collect your name, email, immigration details or anything you type or say.
- The free version shows ads from Google AdMob, which uses device data as described below. Where the law requires it, you are asked for consent first.
- Oathway is not a government app and is not affiliated with USCIS.

What stays on your phone
Oathway keeps these on your device only: your settings (app and translation language, test version, 65/20 choice, state, congressional district, ZIP code, interview date, reminder time, daily goal, theme) and your study progress (which questions you answered and how, starred questions, streak, badges earned, mock-interview results). If Android backup is on, Android may include these in your device backup with your Google account; Oathway itself never uploads them. Uninstalling the app, or More > My progress > Reset progress, deletes them.
Microphone and speech
When you tap the microphone in a mock interview or the reading test, Oathway asks Android's speech recognition service (on most phones, provided by Google) to turn your speech into text, and compares that text with the correct answers on your phone. Oathway does not record, store or send audio itself. How the speech service handles audio is covered by its provider's privacy policy. You can always type your answers instead.
Data that leaves your phone

Ads and your choices
In the European Economic Area, the UK, Switzerland and U.S. states with privacy laws, Oathway shows Google's consent message before ads are personalized, and Settings > Ad privacy choices lets you change your answer at any time. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings (Settings > Privacy > Ads, or Google > Ads). Oathway Pro removes all ads.
Links to other apps and videos
Oathway can open Google Play (to view or install other TapForge Studios apps such as Lingoforge) and YouTube (to watch TapForge Studios videos about the citizenship process). These open in the Play Store or YouTube app or in your browser, and are governed by their own privacy policies. Oathway does not send any of your study data when you tap these links. The link to Lingoforge includes a small campaign tag (utm_source=oathway) so we can tell which app you came from.
Notifications
If you turn on the daily study reminder, the reminder is scheduled on your phone. No server is involved. The reminder may mention your streak or interview countdown; both are read on your phone.
Children
Oathway is made for adults preparing for U.S. citizenship and is not directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Security and retention
All downloads use encrypted HTTPS connections. We don't run servers that store your data, so there is nothing for us to keep or delete about you. Data handled by Google (ads, Play purchases, speech recognition) follows Google's retention policies.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and its effective date. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
