Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

DayLeaf ("the app"; on Google Play as com.tapforgestudios.dayleaf) is developed and published by TapForge Studios, operated by 99 Cent Apps LLC, Crown Point, Indiana, USA ("we", "us", "our"). For anything about privacy, email contact@tapforgeapps.com.

2. What DayLeaf keeps on your phone

To work as a planner, DayLeaf stores the following in its private app storage on your device:

• Your planner: notes, to-dos, occasions, repeat rules, reminders and alarms, and the notepad with your sticky notes.
• Focus details you add to your plans: how long each one takes, its icon, its colour and its steps.
• Your focus history: for each finished focus session, which plan it was for (a reference to the plan, or to the calendar event if you timed one), the day, the planned and actual minutes and the time it finished. DayLeaf uses this to show your week, your streak and how your time estimates compare with reality.
• The focus session in progress: the title, icon and times of what you're focusing on, until the session ends.
• Your settings, widget settings and a copy of any photo you pick for a widget background.
• Cached weather, if you use it: the latest forecast, your town's name and the approximate coordinates it was fetched for.
• Simple usage counts DayLeaf uses on the phone for streaks, stats, tips and deciding when to ask for a rating: for example how many days you've used it, how many to-dos you've completed and when it last asked.
• Diagnostics: a short log of the app's recent steps and, if DayLeaf ever crashes or freezes, a crash report (see section 12).

Other apps can't read DayLeaf's private storage. Uninstalling DayLeaf deletes all of it from your phone.

3. What we collect

Nothing, from the app itself. DayLeaf has no sign-up and we don't run a server for it. We don't receive your plans, your Focus history, your location, your calendar or any usage statistics. The only information we ever receive is what you decide to send us yourself, such as an email to our support address.

4. Android's own device backup

DayLeaf allows Android's built-in backup. If device backup is turned on in your phone's settings, Android may include DayLeaf's data (including a widget photo copy) in your phone's backup, stored with your backup provider (usually your Google account), so it can come back when you set up a new phone. This is controlled by your phone's settings, not by DayLeaf, and we can't access it.

5. When data leaves your phone

These are the only situations in which information leaves your device because of something DayLeaf does. Apart from the purchase check with Google Play, each one is optional or only happens when you use that feature.

Each of these services handles data under its own terms and privacy policy: Open-Meteo's terms and Google's privacy policy. Your phone's maker or speech and voice provider may have their own policies too.

6. Focus mode

Focus mode, added in DayLeaf 3.0, shows your day as a timeline and helps you do one thing at a time. All of it runs on your phone:

• Timeline, timer, steps, breaks and progress are worked out on your device. Nothing about your focus sessions is sent to us. Your Focus details and history are included in backups you make or turn on (section 10), and Share my week sends only what you choose to share.
• Your week, streak and time sense ("Things take you about 15% longer than planned") are calculated on your phone from your focus history.
• Focus sounds (brown noise, rain, ocean) are generated on the phone. DayLeaf doesn't download or record any audio.
• Start nudges are notifications DayLeaf schedules on your phone for when a timed plan begins, while your day view is set to Focus. No push server is involved. You can turn them off in DayLeaf's Focus settings ("Nudge me when a plan starts").
• The lock-screen countdown: while a focus timer runs, DayLeaf shows a notification with the countdown, the name and icon of what you're focusing on, and the name and start time of your next plan. So that you can check it without unlocking, this notification is visible on your lock screen, and with DayLeaf Pro on Android 16 and later it can also appear as a Live Update in the status bar and on the lock screen. You can turn off "Timer in notifications" in DayLeaf's Focus settings (this also removes the Live Update), or turn off Live Updates or notifications for DayLeaf in Android's settings.
• The Focus widget shows what you're focusing on and what's next on your home screen, where anyone who can see your screen can see it too.
• Share my week only runs when you tap it. DayLeaf prepares a short message with your focus time for the week and a Google Play link, and you choose the app and the people to send it to. The link carries a tag (utm_source=share&utm_medium=focus_week) so Google Play Console can show us, as totals, how many installs came from shared links. It contains nothing about you.

7. Voice input

The microphone button in Focus mode's add sheet ("Add to today") opens your phone's own voice-typing screen (Android's speech recognition). DayLeaf doesn't have microphone permission and never hears or records audio. It receives only the words your speech service recognized, which appear in the add box for you to check before saving. Your speech service (for example Google) may process your voice on your phone or on its servers, under its own privacy policy. If you'd rather not use it, just type instead.

8. Local weather (optional)

• Weather is off until you turn it on, and it uses Android's approximate location permission (roughly town-level). DayLeaf never asks for precise location.
• DayLeaf sends the approximate coordinates to Open-Meteo to get a forecast, and keeps a copy of the forecast and the coordinates on your phone so widgets can refresh without asking for your location again. DayLeaf sends Open-Meteo no name, account or device ID. Like most web services, Open-Meteo may keep server logs of requests (which can include the coordinates and your IP address) for a limited time, as described in its terms.
• The town name on the weather card comes from Android's geocoding service.
• To stop: turn off "Weather on the day view" in DayLeaf's settings and turn weather off in each widget's settings. If you remove DayLeaf's location permission in Android's settings, DayLeaf stops fetching weather and forgets the saved coordinates and forecast.

9. Phone calendar (optional)

If you turn it on and allow calendar access, DayLeaf reads the calendars already on your phone (including events synced from your Google or Outlook accounts) and shows those events next to your plans, on the Focus timeline and, if you choose, in widgets. Access is read-only: DayLeaf never changes or deletes your events and never sends them to us. "Read my day" and the talking alarm can read event titles aloud through your phone's text-to-speech engine (section 15). If you time a calendar event in Focus mode, its title is kept in DayLeaf's private storage while the session runs; afterwards your focus history keeps a reference to the event (its calendar ID and start time) with the minutes, not its title or details, and that history is included in your backups. To stop, turn the calendar off in DayLeaf's settings or remove the permission in Android's settings.

10. Backups and Google Drive

Backup to a file (free)

When you export a backup, DayLeaf writes a file to the place you choose with Android's file picker (your phone, a memory card or a cloud folder you pick). That file is yours; it holds your planner, alarms, notes and Focus details and history, and anyone who can open it can read it.

Google Drive auto-backup (Pro, optional)

• It's off until you turn it on, accept the explanation and sign in with Google.
• DayLeaf asks only for Google's drive.file permission, which lets it see only the backup files it creates, never the rest of your Drive.
• The backup ("DayLeaf Backup.json", or a dated "DayLeaf Backup …" file if one from another phone is already there) is uploaded over HTTPS straight from your phone to your Google Drive, where it's stored under your Google account and Google's terms. It never passes through us and we can't see it. Uploads pause while Pro isn't active.
• Signing in with Google gives DayLeaf your Google account's basic profile, such as your email address, as part of Google Sign-In. It stays on your phone and is never sent to us.
• To stop: turn off "Auto-backup to Google Drive" in DayLeaf's settings (this also signs DayLeaf out of Google), delete the backup file from your Drive if you want, and, to remove DayLeaf's access completely, remove it in your Google Account under Security → "Your connections to third-party apps & services".

11. Purchases and ratings

DayLeaf Pro (subscription or one-time purchase) is sold through Google Play Billing. Each time you open DayLeaf it asks Google Play which Pro products your Google account owns, so Pro stays unlocked on your phone; the upgrade screen also asks Google Play for prices. Google handles the payment; DayLeaf only receives confirmation of what you bought and whether it's active. We never see your payment details. You can manage or cancel subscriptions in the Google Play Store.

Rarely, at a good moment such as finishing the day's to-dos, DayLeaf asks Google Play to show its in-app rating window. Google decides whether it appears, and DayLeaf can't see your rating or review.

12. Diagnostics and crash reports

To help fix problems, DayLeaf keeps a short log of the last 30 steps it took, with their times (for example "Backup: export to file"), and if it crashes or freezes it saves a technical report on your phone. A report contains:

• the app version; your phone's maker, model and device code name; your Android version; your language and region setting; and whether it's a low-memory device;
• the technical error (a stack trace, or for a freeze a list of what the app was doing) and the recent steps;
• a summary of your content: how many entries, alarms and sticky notes you have, the length of the longest ones, your theme and whether Pro is on, plus the emoji and symbols you use (as character codes) and the alphabets you write in (for example "HAN" or "DEVANAGARI").

It never contains the words of your plans or notes. Nothing is sent automatically: the report reaches us only if you choose to email it, which opens your own email app with a pre-filled message to contact@tapforgeapps.com that you can read before sending. If no email app is available, the report is copied to your clipboard instead so you can paste it where you like. You can clear the log and the report at any time in Settings → Diagnostics.

13. Notifications, widgets and the lock screen

• DayLeaf shows the alarms and reminders you set, start nudges and the focus timer, plus the optional morning plan, evening wrap-up and weekly recap. They're all scheduled on your phone. There are no push servers and no marketing notifications.
• Alarm, reminder and focus notifications can show the titles of your plans. The focus timer is visible on your lock screen (section 6), and when an alarm or plan alarm rings, DayLeaf's alarm screen appears over the lock screen with the alarm's label or the plan's title. For other notifications, Android's lock-screen setting decides whether their content is shown.
• Widgets show your plans, calendar events (if you turn them on), weather and focus on your home screen. If you pick a widget photo, you choose it with Android's photo picker and DayLeaf can access only that photo. It keeps a smaller JPEG copy, without the original photo's location or other metadata, in its private storage to draw the widget. DayLeaf never uploads it or puts it in its backup files; like DayLeaf's other data, it can be included in Android's device backup (section 4).

14. Sharing, shortcuts and our other apps

• Sharing into DayLeaf: text you share to DayLeaf from another app opens in Quick Add. Nothing is saved until you save it, and nothing is sent anywhere.
• Home-screen shortcuts open DayLeaf's add screens or today's page.
• Our other apps: DayLeaf may show a few other TapForge Studios apps. To open one directly when it's already installed, DayLeaf checks for those specific apps only (and whether your phone has a voice-typing app); it can't see your other apps. Links on DayLeaf's "More apps" screen and cards carry a tag (utm_source=dayleaf&utm_medium=crosspromo plus where the link was shown) so Google Play Console can show us, as totals, how many installs came from DayLeaf. They contain nothing about you.

15. Reading aloud

"Read my day", the talking alarm and Focus mode's spoken cues use the text-to-speech engine on your phone. DayLeaf passes it only the text to be spoken, such as the date, the titles of your plans and calendar events and, if you turn it on, the forecast. Most voices work on the device; if you've chosen a voice that uses an online service, the text is handled by that provider under its own policy.

16. Permissions DayLeaf uses

Some of these are added by the Google libraries DayLeaf uses (Google Play Billing and Android's WorkManager). DayLeaf does not request the microphone, precise location, contacts, your photo library, or the Advertising ID (which it explicitly removes).

17. Selling and sharing

We do not sell, rent or share your personal information, and we don't use it for advertising. DayLeaf contains no advertising or analytics SDKs.

18. Security

Your data sits in DayLeaf's private storage, protected by Android's app sandbox and by your phone's screen lock and encryption. The network features above use HTTPS. Backup files you export, and the Drive backup, are protected by wherever you keep them and by your Google account. No method of storage is perfectly secure, so keep your phone locked and your accounts protected.

19. Keeping and deleting your data

• On your phone: kept until you delete it. Delete single items in the app, clear the diagnostics log and crash report in Settings → Diagnostics, or delete everything with Android Settings → Apps → DayLeaf → Storage → Clear storage, or by uninstalling DayLeaf. Cached weather is replaced each time it refreshes and is forgotten if you remove the location permission.
• Google Drive backup: stays in your Drive until you delete it there.
• Exported backup files: stay wherever you saved them until you delete them.
• Open-Meteo and Google: keep data under their own policies.
• Emails you send us: kept only as long as needed to help you. Ask us any time and we'll delete them.

20. Children

DayLeaf is a general-audience productivity app. It isn't directed at children, has no ads, and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

21. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK, or in California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data and to object to its use. Because DayLeaf keeps your data on your phone and we don't hold it, you can do all of this yourself: view and edit your plans in the app, export a backup, delete items in the app, and delete everything with Android's Clear storage or by uninstalling. For data held by Google or Open-Meteo, contact them directly. For anything else, email us and we'll reply within 30 days.

22. Changes to this policy

If DayLeaf's handling of data changes, we'll update this page and the effective date at the top, and mention significant changes in the app's release notes.
