Plately is built privacy-first. Your food log, weight, workouts, and goals live on your device. There is no Plately account, no analytics, no advertising, and we never sell your data — because we never collect it in the first place.
No account No analytics No ads No data sale Offline-first
1. Who we are
Plately ("the app") is developed and published by TapForge Studios (operating as 99 Cent Apps LLC), an independent app developer based in Indiana, USA. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at contact@tapforgeapps.com.
2. What data Plately stores, and where
Everything you enter into Plately is stored locally on your device using Android's on-device database and preferences storage. This includes:
- Your food diary entries, custom foods, favorites, and recipes
- Your workouts and logged exercise
- Your weight log and water intake
- Your profile details (name you choose, age, height, weight, activity level, calorie and diet goals)
- App settings and preferences
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly create a backup (see Section 5) or sync it through Health Connect (see Section 4). TapForge Studios cannot see, access, or retrieve any of it. We operate no servers that store your personal data.
3. Internet access — nutrition lookups only
Plately connects to the internet for one purpose: to look up nutrition information when you search for a food or scan a barcode. To do this, your search term or the scanned barcode number is sent to one or both of these third-party food databases:
- USDA FoodData Central — a public nutrition database operated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (fdc.nal.usda.gov).
- Open Food Facts — a free, open food products database (openfoodfacts.org).
Only the text you searched or the barcode you scanned is sent — never your diary, your weight, your identity, or any other personal information. These lookups are not tied to any account or profile. We do not control these third-party services; their use of request data is governed by their own privacy policies.
4. Health Connect (steps, weight, workouts & nutrition)
Plately can optionally connect to Health Connect, Android's on-device health data platform, but only after you grant permission. This connection is entirely on your device — data exchanged through Health Connect does not pass through TapForge Studios.
| Data type | Access | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Steps | Read | To show your daily steps and 7-day step chart, synced from your watch or phone. |
| Weight | Read & write | To pull weight you've recorded elsewhere into Plately, and to save weigh-ins you log in Plately. |
| Exercise sessions | Write | To record workouts you log in Plately to the platform. |
| Nutrition | Write | To record the calories you log to the platform. |
You can grant or revoke any of these permissions at any time in Health Connect's own settings. Plately only reads and writes the data types listed above, and only for the features described. If you never connect Health Connect, none of this applies and the Steps feature simply stays empty.
Plately's use of Health Connect data adheres to the Health Connect Permissions policy, including its restrictions on how health and fitness data may be used. We do not transfer Health Connect data to any third party, use it for advertising, or sell it.
5. Backups — you choose where they go
Plately lets you export a complete backup of your data to a single file, and restore from one later. When you tap Back up, Android's system file picker opens and you decide where the file is saved — for example Google Drive, Dropbox, or local device storage. When you tap Restore, you pick a backup file from wherever you saved it.
Important points:
- Backups are created only when you choose to make one. Plately never uploads or syncs your data automatically or in the background.
- If you save a backup to a cloud service like Google Drive, that file is then stored in your own cloud account and governed by that provider's privacy policy. TapForge Studios has no access to it.
- Plately does not connect to your Google Drive account or any cloud account directly, and asks for no cloud sign-in. It simply hands the file to the destination you select in the system picker.
6. Camera
Plately requests camera access for one feature: scanning food barcodes. The camera is used only while the scanner is open, to read a barcode. Plately does not take, store, or transmit photos, and does not use the camera for any other purpose.
7. Notifications
If you enable reminders (for meals, water, or weigh-ins), Plately schedules local notifications on your device. These are generated entirely on-device; no notification data is sent anywhere.
8. Purchases (Plately Pro)
Plately offers an optional subscription and one-time purchase ("Plately Pro") through Google Play Billing. Payments are handled entirely by Google Play — Plately never sees or stores your payment details, card numbers, or billing address. Plately only receives from Google Play a confirmation of whether you currently hold an active entitlement, so it can unlock Pro features. Your purchase is governed by Google Play's terms and privacy policy.
9. Children's privacy
Plately is a general-audience health and fitness app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because Plately stores data only on the device and operates no account system, no personal data is transmitted to us regardless of who uses the app.
10. Data sharing & sale
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with anyone. We run no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs in Plately. The only outbound data is the food-lookup requests described in Section 3, which contain no personal or identifying information.
11. Your control over your data
- Edit or delete any entry directly in the app at any time.
- Export a full backup whenever you like (Pro), and take it anywhere.
- Delete everything by clearing the app's data in Android Settings, or by uninstalling the app — which permanently removes all locally stored data from your device.
- Revoke permissions (camera, notifications, Health Connect) at any time through Android's settings.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change how Plately handles data, we'll update this policy and revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect in a new app version.
